Old Pinakothek

The Alte Pinakothek in Munich is one of the oldest galleries in the world and houses one of the most famous collections of Old Master paintings. The exhibition shows paintings from Middle Age until the middle of the 18th Century. The Alte Pinakothek is part of the Bavarian State Painting Collection. 

The Alte Pinakothek was finishes after then years of contructing in 1836. Durng that time it was the largest museum in the world and technically very advanced. King Ludwig the I., plannes the whole conctruction and thus he made the royal art collection accessible for everyone.

The spacious rooms are divided into different themes, for example, the first floor exhibits early Netherlandish, old German, Italian Renaissance, French and Spanish paintings.
There are also changing exhibitions, which deal with different themes.  The Alte Pinakothek was damages during the second world war and consequently it had to be rebuilt. But they did not remove the whole museum, instead they left some parts unimproved to remind the people at the war.
